DIY peppermint lip balm
This is an easy DIY project that can be a lot of fun — not to mention the fact that it produces a great lip balm. These make great gifts for friends, too, and they’re perfect for stashing in a purse or bag.
Use cosmetic-grade products for this project. You can find the supplies at stores like Hi-Health and Whole Foods. You can find the containers at craft supply stores. We decorated the lids of our containers with stickers and beads for a finishing touch.
DIY peppermint lip balm
Supplies:
- 1 tablespoon pure shea butter
- 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
- 1 tablespoon beeswax pearls (also called pellets)
- 8 to 10 drops peppermint essential oil
- 4 (0.5-ounce) containers
Instructions:
1
Melt the shea butter, almond oil and beeswax in the top of a double boiler or a heat-proof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Whisk until the ingredients are melted and turn to liquid. If your mixture doesn’t melt quickly, add it to a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 10 seconds, and then whisk until everything melts.
2
Remove the mixture from the heat and add eight to 10 drops of peppermint essential oil.
3
Quickly add the mixture to a glass measuring cup with a spout, and pour it into the containers.
4
Allow the containers to sit for about 30 minutes until the balm is solid, and then add the lids.
